Hello out there 👋🏼 🤠
I chose to use today’s post to talk about my love of books and my love of reading.
Yes. They are definitely 2 different forms of affection.
For many years, I happily lived with an earring fetish only. (Make no mistake – I am still a prolific collector of earrings.) But I found room in both my heart and my apartment for reading and books ❣️ 📚
As I was saying though, I thought earrings were all I needed to make me happy.
Well, 2023 arrived and I, thankfully, collided with the utterly addictive habit of reading.
I am never turning back. This is the life.
I am not ashamed to say that the amount of time I spend every day reading a physical or electronic copy of a book, or listening to the audio version borders on ridiculous.
But I’ve been ridiculed for less.

So I carry on with my normal, bookish day when people ask questions or make statements like:
I don’t get the point of reading.
How many books did you read already this month???!!!
Why do you have so many books?
I don’t see why you are buying more books if you haven’t finished reading the ones that you have.
(That last one is exhausting. Mind your business. Did I ask you to fund the next book haul?)
My favorite genre is psychological thrillers! The mind games keep me at the edge of my seat and make me go back for one more chapter, just one more, okay just one more chapter… Suddenly it’s 3AM and I’m scared, sleepy, confused, and looking forward to resting so I can read more.
Other genres I read are historical fiction and romantic comedies.
Historical fiction is funny because, when I first saw that as a genre, I said ‘Oh! I would never’. At this point, I have never read about 50 historical fiction novels and learned so much. Yes, a lot of authors include people who really existed, along with factual information. But it’s not like being in school. They are cleverly woven and entertaining stories that include fact and fiction.
Last, but definitely not least important in my life, a good romantic comedy can be read over and over again. One that makes me laugh out loud, too loud, is “When One Door Closes,” by B. E. Baker. I can’t tell you how many times I have read or listened to it, and I have no plans to stop.
I’m always collecting favorite rom-coms. So, I’ll never be bored. It must have a guaranteed happily ever after though. Or I’m not reading the book 😑
When it comes to paper versus ebook versus audio, I partake in all of them.
But there is something extremely special about curling up with a matte-covered paperback and devouring up to 150 pages in one sitting as if I have no other responsibilities.
I could go on and on about my bookish life but I’ll save more for later.
Are you a book reader? Tell us in the comments 🤔
